The Canopy Flasher and Connectbox

Make your glider more visible with the canopy flasher mounted inside the canopy.  Six extremely bright red CREE™ LED lights are visible ±40 degrees left and right of the nose and ±20 degrees above and below the horizon providing better visibility to traffic within this cone from over 3 km away.

The LED system is mounted to the canopy using 3M two-sided tape for a light-proof seal preventing any light from the LED's refelcting back at the pilot.

The Connectbox is the brains of the system and it connects the canopy flasher to your Flarm allowing it to automatically come on when the glider starts moving at take-off and turn off after the glider comes to a stop after landing.  When the Flarm detects traffic ahead of your position the Connectbox causes the canopy flasher to flash with a more rapid frequency and narrower beam (1 in the graphics below ).  Beam 2 is a lower intensity wider angle pattern that uses less power for the majority of the flight.

The Connectbox includes 2 Flarm RJ45 port to act as a splitter allowing easy installation.  Simply unplug the currrent cable from the Flarm RJ45 port and plug that into the Connectbox and then plug the Connectbox RJ45 into the flarm.

The wire to connect the LED to the Connectbox is designed for either forward hinged or side hinged canopies such that in the event you must jettison the canopy the wire quickly detaches from the canopy mounted LED.

  • Side hinged canopies magnetic connector 106 €

The Canopy flasher can be installed without a Connectbox.  With this installation, there is an on/off switch.  It is not a good idea to turn on the flasher on the ground as you may blind the person connecting the tow rope.  You need to remember to turn it on at some point after this.  With the Connectbox, you may just leave the switch in the on position and the flasher will start once the glider starts to move.
